Edward Lynch Tribute

Edward Lynch (Scenic Artist, Designer and Actor) passed away in St. James’s Hospital on Sunday (9th February) night after a short illness.

Born in Dublin in November 1933, Edward studied at Royal College of Art in Dublin. After graduation he worked extensively in theatre design and set painting and became a staunch member of Irish Actors Equity. He was later commissioned to design and paint cinema and theatre posters. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Edward performed in plays and stage-managed.

Edward was an integral part of the Dublin theatre scene, designing many prestigious and innovative productions in all the major theatres. He also freelanced for RTE during the early days of television, often working with artist and playwright, James McKenna and fellow designer Eddie Doyle.

Edward was a founding member of the Stage Management Sector of Irish Equity. He campaigned for better conditions and supported his fellow members.

A “laid-back bon viveur”, Edward’s dry wit, observant eye and joyous company will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked with him.
