Irish Equity Congratulates Stephen Rea on winning his BAFTA TV award for best supporting actor for his role in the popular British political spy thriller series ‘The Honourable Woman’. Stephen played Sir Hugh Hayden Hoyle in this production and beat off stiff rivalry from Adeel Akhtar in Channel 4’s Utopia, Ken Stott in The Missing, and James Norton from Happy Valley.

“There are so many incredible actors in the Honourable Woman. I feel I’m receiving this on their behalf,” he said

Although he has been twice previously nominated this is Stephen’s first time to win the BAFTA. His previous nominations were for ‘The Shadow Line’ (2012) and Neil Jordan’s ‘The Crying Game’ (1999)  for which he also received an Oscar nomination.

“We are delighted for Stephen to have won this award” said Karan O’Loughlin, Sectoral Organiser for Irish Equity, “not just for Stephen personally but because it once again demonstrates the standard of talent that is out there amoung Irish actors in the industry. This encourages young and struggling actors to persevere with their craft in a very challenging industry”.
