Mark D’Aughton has been involved in theatre practice in Ireland for almost 30 years. He completed a postgraduate Degree in Acting and Performance at VGIK, Moscow, in 1994 under the tutelage of Albert Filozof and Vladimir Anayev. In 2016 he completed an MRes dissertation with the UCC Drama and Theatre Studies that investigated the role of the actor as a creator and adaptor.

Mark was a leading member of Loose Canon Theatre Company, for whom he played a number of roles and was actively involved in their laboratory work phase from 2000 to 2004, www.loosecanon.com. He has worked with both the Abbey and Peacock theatres, as well as Corcadorca, Galloglass, Calypso,

Second Age, Bedrock, Articulated Anatomy, Macnas and the Broken Crow Theatre Collective theatre companies.

Mark’s theatre work includes work with international companies, such as Gardzienice, Odin Teatret, and the Roy Hart Centre for Voice with a focus on actor training and theatre exploration. Mark was closely involved in Gardzienice’s explorative phase of rehearsals for Iphigenia at Tauris, as part of their long-term commitment to producing a Greek cycle of plays that includes Iphigenia at Aulis and Electra, www.gardzienice.art.pl.

Mark has played a leading part in a number of ground-breaking site-specific productions in Ireland. During the millennium celebrations, he took on the role of Jesus Christ in Conal Creedon’s play, The Trial of Jesus staged on the streets of Cork by Corcadorca Theatre Company in collaboration with local communities, http://www.corcadorca.com/website/previous-productions/trial-of-jesus. For Corcadorca he performed in many of their site-specific plays, including A Clockwork Orange, The Merchant of Venice and Plasticine (http://www.corcadorca.com/website/previous-productions).

In June 2015 as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival, Mark and other creative artists adapted a medieval text for the performance, Friars Walk, that was directed by Chrissie Poulter. This project was generously supported by the Culture and Creativity Project Fund by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, UCC, www.ucc.ie/en/cacsss/news/fullstory. The project was subsequently produced as a radio drama for UCC Campus Radio and RTÉ Lyric FM. With RTÉ Lyric FM Mark and created two more radio dramas, Christmas Postcards and Jerusalem Passion, with the latter being among the finalists of the 2018 New York Radio Festivals (http://www.newyorkfestivals.com/worldsbestradio/2018/).

He is a member of the Tom Kibbe Collective and Intersections, working collaboratively locally but also nationally in Ireland.
